Frequently Asked Questions
When will the Angelus Film Festival happen?
It is scheduled for October 2025. It will go for the whole month of October, Australia wide. One movie a week for 1 month, more or less films can be selected. Parish venues can also run the event over a number of days or in another calendar month, from July 2025.
How does a parish venue register for “The Angelus Film Festival?”
Simply fill in this registration form
Can a group of neighbouring parishes run the event at an agreed venue and share the costs?
Yes
Does it cost to register for “The Angelus Film Festival?”
No It does not cost to register an interest to participate in the Angelus Film Festival. If a parish venue decides to register and does not wish to participate there is no cost.
We need to collect the parish registration forms to discuss with film distributors and negotiate screening fees. Once the film screening fees are confirmed, we will announce the films to feature at the film festival to the registered parishes and the costs per screening for each film. The parish venue can decide if they wish to proceed and select the films they would like to screen.
Parish venues are encouraged to register as soon as possible and by no later than 16 May 2025. Registered parish venues will be notified of the movies to feature at the film festival in June.
Does it cost to participate in “The Angelus Film Festival?”
Yes there will be a fee for the screening of each film at a parish venue and an administration fee to host the event. A fee will need to be paid each time a film is screened as part of the film festival event. The screening fee will be based on how many people are expected to attend. Given that parish venues are not equivalent to cinema venues the fees will be competitive. The estimated fees for screening a film are; $80 for venues with 20 people and less, $130 for venues with 21 to 50 people, $250 for venues with 51 -150 people, $450 for venues with 151 – 300 people and $500 for venues with more than 300 people.
The estimated administration fee would be around $150 (this includes assistance with promotion and curating films) for the screening of 4 films. For a small venue the total cost to host the event and feature 4 films would be about $470.
If the parish would like the details of film screenings for their venue to be promoted on this website, along with other participating parishes in Australia, this would cost about $130 per parish venue (optional).
What Films will the event be making available?
We are in contact with film distributors from around the world and they are interested to know how many parish venues in Australia would host such an event. The actual names of the films cannot be released until venues are registered and screening fees are confirmed with film distributors. The Angelus Film Festival will be featuring films with the Jubilee year theme of “Hope”. It is planned to make at least 10 films available. Some of the films have won awards at international Christian film festivals such as Mirabile Dictu (Vatican International Catholic Film Festival). Given the international nature of Christianity some films will be foreign language with English sub-titles and some will be in English.
How does a parish venue run the Angelus Film Festival?
1) Check if your parish priest and parish community are interested to run the event or perhaps the event can be run in partnership with other interested parishes in the area to share a venue.
2) Check if you have a parish venue available to host the event for the month of October 2025 or another period from July 2025. Parishes can screen films on the days and times which work best for the parish. Check if there are venue hire fees.
3) Check if the parish venue has options for a big screen set-up, appropriate seating, a good internet connection etc. Check if the venue can stream films from the modem via an ethernet cable to a laptop and via a HDMI cable to a projector etc. Check appropriate configuration with the technical person at your parish venue.
4) Check if parishioners are keen to volunteer to assist with selling tickets, organizing food, raffle. drinks etc.
5) Perhaps some local musicians would also like to perform at the event or an art exhibition could accompany the event etc.
6) Other things to consider; it does help if the movie screen is elevated, especially if the film is foreign and has English subtitles at the bottom of the screen. An elevated screen will make it easier for the audience to see the screen and read the text. If possible, it is advisable that the seating is arranged with elevated seating at the back etc.
7) The Angelus Film Festival can provide assistance with film festival posters for participants and is not responsible for the completion of the posters.
8) Most film festival movies run for about 90 minutes. These details will be released when the films are announced.
9) A promotional before the movie clip will be screened prior to each movie. The promotional clip will include some clips from partners and sponsors of the Angelus Film Festival.
10) Participating parishes will be offered the opportunity to sell Parousia media merchandise at the film festival.
11) Participating venues can engage local sponsors for the event. Participating venues can add company logos of local sponsors to the film festival posters. Announcements thanking local sponsors can also be made prior to the promotional before the movie clip.
How many films must a parish venue select?
This is optional, depending on the parish events calendar. The film festival is planned to go for 4 weeks in October 2025, if a parish venue wishes to fully participate in the festival, it could screen one film a week for 4 weeks (4 films), but a parish can select more films or less if they wish. A fee will still need to be paid for the screening of each film and an administration fee to host the event.
What is the schedule for running a film festival evening?
This is up to the local parish, but as a general guide. For weeknights it is recommended to begin screening the films earlier (6:30pm) and on a Friday or Saturday night (7pm) or a Saturday afternoon. Parishioners may wish to bring a plate or organize some food before the film. It is recommended to begin the evening with a meal and social time (usually about 30 minutes) prior to starting the movie (most movies are between 1.5 – 2 hours). Following the movie it is great to have a chat or small group discussions about the film, share some coffee, tea, wine, supper etc. Integrate prayer into the program.
Can parish venues sell tickets to raise money?
Yes all money raised via ticket sales, fundraising etc can be used by the organising parish/group of parishes.
Will the Angelus Film Festival acquire a percentage of ticket sales and local sponsorship?
No.
Parish venues can include local sponsor logos on the film festival posters and make announcements prior to the promotional before the movie clip. Interested sponsors can also approach the Angelus Film Festival to have company logos on the Angelus Film Festival website and/or in the promotional before the movie clip. The promotional before the movie clip will be used nationally, so it will not be tailored for each parish venue.
How will the films be made available?
Parish venues confirmed to participate will receive a link and password to view the film. Parish venues can screen the film whenever they wish during the month of October or another period following July 2025. The films will be streamed via internet connection, so the parish venue will need a very good internet connection. There will be no DVD options available.
What type of configuration will parish venues need to stream the films?
The venue will need a projector which can connect to a laptop via HDMI cable and an ethernet cable from the laptop to the modem or something similar. Please consult with the technical person responsible for the venue.
Note: Wireless connectivity is not reliable enough when streaming films and may cause the transmission to freeze and drop out.
Your network connection should sustain a download speed of at least 20 Mbps to view the simulcast. The movie file will be emailed to you a week prior to your event so you will have time to test the movie. If you would like to take an intermission during the movie, you have the ability to pause the movie etc.
